At age 19, Matthew Settle moved to New York City and was a member of a rock group. In the end, his lack of musical ability eventually led him to rethink his career, he chose to become an actor. He was nearly 29 years old.Born on September 17, 1969, in Hickory, NC, Settle is the youngest of two daughters and four brothers. His father was a Baptist preacher, and his mother was a organist in the church. In 1983, the family moved to Sevierville. Settle was an avid Dolly Parton fan and sold records at Dollywood's amusement park. He later decided to be a musician. After being evicted by the New York-based band Settle was forced to sell meat and seafood from a Long Island truck before Jay Julian (Robert De Niro’s lawyer) got him into acting school. Settle borrowed money from friends to pay for the classes before relocating in Los Angeles to begin his career.Settle made his small-screen debut in the role of Sarah Paulson as an Irish-American settler in the 1996 CBS pilot Shaughnesy. He was later cast as an aspiring frat boy in the film of the week What Happened to Bobby Earl? (1997), Kate Jackson and Kristian Alfonso. He plays a small part in the television movie Murder in Mind (1997), with Ellen Burstyn, Kristin Davis.
