Selena Quintanilla recorded her debut album in the 80s. She would later become a Grammy-winning recording artist in Latin music, with albums such as Selena Live and Amor Prohibido. In 1995, she was murdered by the person who founded her fan club. The last album she released, Dreaming of You, was released after her death in 1995.Selena was born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas. Her father, Abraham Quintanilla, was a former musician. He was the producer and manager of his family's group, Selena Y Los Dinos.Selena was raised speaking English however, her father taught her how to sing in Spanish to help her connect with the Latino community. She learned the lyrics phonetically at first, and eventually learned to speak Spanish proficiently. She began singing as an child.Around 10 years old, Selena became the lead vocalist in the family band. The musical group started out playing weddings and clubs in their hometown of Texas. The band was led by her brother Abraham on bass guitar and her sister Suzette on the drums.
