Selena Quintanilla made her recording debut in the 1980s and went on to become an award-winning artist within the Latin music scene with albums like Amor Prohibido and Selena Live. The singer was murdered by the founder of her fan club in 1995. Dreaming of You was her final album. She was killed by the person who founded the fan club she was a member of in 1995. Abraham Quintanilla was Selena's dad. Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla, was also a former musician. He also managed and produced Selena Y Los Dinos, his family's band. Selena grew up in English however her father taught her Spanish in order to help her connect with the Latino community. In the beginning, she was taught to read Spanish phonetically, but she eventually became proficient in it. When she was a kid she started singing in a group. The group began performing in Texas clubs and weddings. The group featured her brother Abraham on bass guitar and her sister Suzette playing drums.
