Serena Jameka Williams, born September 26, 1981[1], is an American professional tennis player. She was the world's number. 1 tennis player and is widely regarded as one of the best. The women's Tennis Association (WTA), ranked her No. 1 in singles for 319 consecutive weeks. This was a record-setting of 186 consecutive weeks. She was also the year's No. 5 times. Her parents Oracene and Richard Williams coached her. She was awarded 23 Grand Slam singles titles. This is the most she's ever had in the Open Era. In 1995, she became professional and took home her first major singles title at US Open 1999. She was dominant from the 2002 French Open to 2003 Australian Open. The following years saw her win two more majors in singles, but she suffered from injuries and declining form. Since 2007, however, she gradually returned to form despite continued injuries, retaking the world No. 1 singles ranking. Starting at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, Williams returned to the top of the list, winning Olympic gold, becoming the first player in tennis to earn an all-time Golden Slam in both singles and doubles. [19] She won eight of the thirteen singles majors, and won all four in a row in 2014-2015 to win a second "Serena Slam".
