Alicia Silverstone was born on October 4, 1976 in San Francisco, California, the youngest of three children. Silverstone is the daughter of Didi (Radford) and is an airline attendant from the past, and Monty Silverstone who is a real estate investor. Her father is English and comes from a Jewish family. Her Scottish-born mother converted into Judaism. Her television career began at the age of six when her father began taking pictures of her daughter. This led to several commercials. After appearing in The Wonder Years (1988) as a literal "dream girl" and then moved to films. She was part of The Crush (1993), which is a re-imagining of Fatal Attraction (1987), where she was a young woman who is in love with an older male. Although the role was not well received by the reviewers, it did well with its intended audience of teenagers. The role actually was awarded her an award in 1994. MTV Movie Award for "Best Villain" and "Breakthrough Performance". It's interesting to know that Alicia was an emancipated teen in the filming process to avoid limitations on her working hours. From the beginning she was an avid actor. Aerosmith hired her to perform on a series of music videos. The first, "Cryin'", was named the top video of all time on MTV. Silverstone was a huge hit for MTV viewers, however she still struggled to achieve commercial success. This changed when she got the part as Cher in Amy Heckerling's Clueless (1995). Cher was the antithesis to the role played by Alicia in The Crush.
