Alison Doody was born in Dublin in 1966. She was raised in a well-off family. Doody is the youngest of three. She was born in a convent and discovered a passion for the arts. After graduation from the National College of Fine Arts, Dublin, she decided to rest for a year and continue her studies. While in a cafe with her fellow students, a photographer stopped her and asked if she would like to model. She agreed, believing she could use the money. Modeling was both rewarding and fun and quickly became an experienced model. She was able to do commercial work through the modeling contracts she signed. A casting director was impressed with her work and suggested she try acting. She was transferred to London at the age of 19 and was quickly selected for an audition to be part of the latest James Bond film, A View to a Kill (1985). Acting was something she enjoyed so much that she decided to take on a job in this area. After her first film, she directed some TV dramas in London and in Dublin however her biggest breakthrough came when she got given the role of Aryan seductress Dr. Elsa Schneider in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
