Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Kate Paltrow was born in Los Angeles, the daughter of noted producer and director Bruce Paltrow and Tony Award-winning actress Blythe Danner. Her father comes from a Jewish family, and her mother is mostly of German descent. When Gwyneth was 11 years old her family relocated to Massachusetts where her father started working in summer productions for stock in the Berkshires. With the help of her parents, she got her first acting lessons. After having graduated from the Spence School for Girls in New York City, she relocated to California and majored in Art History at UC Santa Barbara. Then she decided to leave, realizing that it wasn't her thing. Shout (1991), her first film role was her debut. The actress continued to be featured in films for five more years, including Flesh and Bone (1993), Mrs. Parker and The Vicious Circle (1994), Se7en (1995), Jefferson in Paris (1995), Moonlight and Valentino (95) and The Pallbearer (1996). The performance she gave in Emma Woodhouse's title role in Emma (1996) was the reason that resulted in her being offered Viola in Shakespeare in Love (1998). The film was awarded the Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Academy Awards for Best Actress in Leading Part. She has also played roles in The talented Mr. Ripley (1999), The Royal Tenenbaums (2000), Shallow Hal (2002), Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (2004) and Proof (2005). There are two kids she has with her ex-husband, English musician Chris Martin.
