Helen Hunt began studying acting at the age of 8 with her father, a respected director and acting coach Gordon Hunt. In the year following, she made her debut on stage and then continued to perform in films, theatre as well as television.Helen Hunt was born in Culver City, California. Her father was the director and acting coach Gordon Hunt, and Helen started acting when she was a child. Her first performance was in the TV film Pioneer Woman (1973). For years, she appeared in many TV movies and television shows. Hunt was also a part in the sitcom It Takes Two (1982). In 2000, she appeared in Pay It Forward (2000), What Women Want (2000) as well as Cast Away (2000).Hunt made her directorial debut in the film Then She Discovered Me(2007). The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress after her role in The Sessions (2012).
