Jason Statham was born in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, to Eileen (Yates), a dancer, as well as Barry Statham, a street merchant and lounge singer. He was a Diver on the British National Diving Team and finished twelfth in the World Championships in 1992. He has also been a fashion model as well as a black market salesman, and then, of course, an actor. He was invited to audition for his first role as Bacon in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) through French Connection, for whom the actor was modeling. They became a major investor in the movie and introduced Jason to Guy Ritchie, who invited him to audition for a part in the film, by asking him to play an illegal street vendor and get him to buy fake jewelry. Jason probably did something right after Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) was a huge success. He teamed up with Guy Ritchie again for Snatch (2000) and co-stars Brad Pitt, Dennis Farina and Benicio de Toro. Following Snatch (2000) was Turn It Up (2000) featuring US pop star Ja Rule. This was followed by an acting role as a support actor in the sci-fi film Ghosts of Mars (2001) Jet Li's The One (2001) and another collaboration on screen with Vinnie Jones in Mean Machine (2001) under Guy Ritchie's and Matthew Vaughn's SKA Films. In 2002, he was cast in the main character Frank Martin in The Transporter (2002). Jason also starred in The Italian Job (1969) as Handsome Rob.
