Karen Gillan

Karen Sheila Gillan is the only daughter of Marie Paterson (a singer and recording artist) and John Gillan (a Scottish born and raised girl). At 16 years old she began to develop a love for acting when she was a part of youth theatre groups and various performances at Charleston Academy. She later studied theatre under Scott Johnston at Performing Arts Studio Scotland. In the following years she enrolled at the Italia Conti Academy in London. The first year of her studies, she landed a role in the show Rebus (2000) and quickly was seen on a variety of programs including Channel 4's Stacked (2008) and The Kevin Bishop Show (2008) and a two-year stint on the long-running show Doctor Who (2005). Karen also stars in the movie Outcast (2010) which stars James Nesbitt. Her most recent starring role is that of Eliza Dooley on the situation comedy Selfie (2014).
