Torrence Ivy (Boosie BadAzz) was born in Louisiana. His father was Torrence Hatch Sr., who was a pastor until he died in 1997, and his mother, Connie Hatch, a school director. Boosie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a youngster. Young Dee, his cousin, saw Boosie's potential and started tagging him to various events. In the late 1990s Boosie met Boosie and C-Loc to Baton Rouge rapper C.Loc. Young Bleed and C-Loc mentored Boosie, teaching Boosie the basics of the business. In 1998, they allowed him to be a part of Concentration Camp as the group's youngest member. The group consisted of C-Loc, Young Bleed, Lucky Knuckles, J-Von, Lee Tyme, Max Minelli, Boo, and Happy Perez.Two years after, Boosie debuted on C-Loc's fifth album, "It's a Gamble," and Concentration Camp's third studio album, "Camp III: Thug Brothas." Young Bleed quit the group , and Boosie assumed the lead as the leader, and took on a lot of task. At the age of Boosie was 17, he recorded his debut album, "Youngest of da Camp." Happy Perez was responsible for the production. The album was a collaboration between C-Loc Donkey as well as Max Minelli.
