Matthew Settle, age 19, moved to New York City with a rock band. He decided to become an actor after his inability play an instrument caused him to reconsider the direction of his career. Numerous drama classes, failed pilots and even television movies after that, this Johnny-comes-lately to the film industry was offered his first major role as the oldest principal cast member in the teenage scream flick I still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998). Settle was just 29 years old. old. He was born in Hickory (NC) on September 17, 1969. His father was a Baptist preacher and his mother was an organist. In 1983, the family moved to Sevierville. Settle sold records at Dolly Parton's local theme park Dollywood and then decided to pursue a career as a musician. After being exiled from his rock group from New York in the early 1990s, he sold seafood and meat from the back of a truck in Long Island before Jay Julian Robert De Niro's lawyer who enrolled him in acting school. Settle was able to borrow money from friends to pay for classes, and then moved to Los Angeles to start his career. He was later cast as a frat-boy in the movie that aired on the show What happened to Bobby Earl? (1997), Kate Jackson and Kristian alfonso. He has a minor part in the television movie Murder in Mind (1997) along with Ellen Burstyn, Kristin Davis.
