At age 19, Matthew Settle moved to New York City and was a member of a rock group. Settle decided to pursue a career as an actor when his inability play a musical instrument forced him to reconsider his future plans. Numerous drama classes, failed pilots and a few television shows later, this young man who was late to the movie business got his first big-name role as the oldest cast member in the teen horror film I still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998). He was almost 29 years old.Born on September 17, 1969 in Hickory, NC, Settle is the youngest of two daughters and four boys. His father was a Baptist preacher and his mother was an organist in the church. In 1983, the family moved to Sevierville. Settle was a Dolly Parton fan and sold records at the nearby Dollywood amusement park. Settle then made the decision to pursue a career as a musician. After being disqualified by the New York-based band, Settle began selling seafood and meat from an Long Island truck before Jay Julian (Robert De Niro's lawyer) was able to get him into acting school. Settle took money from his friends to pay for classes and moved to Los Angeles to start his career. He went on to portray a frat boy in the movie that aired on the show What Happened to Bobby Earl? (1997), Kate Jackson and Kristian alfonso. He has a minor part in the tv movie Murder in Mind (1997) along with Ellen Burstyn, Kristin Davis.
