Melania Trump (/m@'la:ni@/ m@-LAH-nee-@; born Melanija Knavs [me'la:nija 'kna:ws],[tone needed] Germanized as Melania Knauss [me'la:nia 'knaUs] (born April 26, 1970) is a Slovene-American former model as well as businesswoman who served as First Lady of the United States from 2017 to 2021 as the wife of President Donald Trump.Trump was born in Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia), and worked as a fashion model through agencies in the European fashion capitals of Milan and Paris prior to moving to New York City in 1996. She was a part of Irene Marie Models and Trump Model Management. She was married to Donald Trump in 2005 and they had their son Barron. She became an American naturalized citizen later in the year. After Louisa Adams, she is the second American woman to be naturalized and is the first non-native English speaker to become the first lady.
