Natalie Portman is the first actress born in the 1980s to have won the Academy Award for Best Actress (for Black Swan (2010)).Natalie was born Natalie Hershlag on the 9th of June, 1981, in Jerusalem, Israel. She is the sole daughter of Avner Hershlag, an Israeli-born doctor, as well as Shelley Stevens, an American-born artist (from Cincinnati, Ohio) who is also Natalie's agent. Both parents are Ashkenazi Jewish. Natalie's family moved out of Israel for Washington, D.C., while she was young. Her family moved several times before they arrived in New York. She still lives there to this day. She graduated with distinction and her academic accomplishments led her to enroll at Harvard University. She was discovered by an agent working in an eatery in 11 years old. At the age of 11, she was urged to pursue a career as a model, however she eventually decided she wanted to be an actor. She was featured in many live performances, but she made her powerful film debut in the movie Leon: The Professional (1994) (aka "Leon"). In the following years, Natalie won roles in such films such as Heat (1995), Beautiful Girls (1996), and Mars Attacks! (1996).
