Ric Flair

Richard Morgan Fliehr may not seem like what you'd imagine from a professional wrestling star. A medical student at Minnesota University (his father was an ophthalmologist, and his mother an actress), Flair dropped out school to prepare for mat wars with legendary former AWA World champ Verne Gagne. On December 10 of 1972 when he made his professional wrestling debut with the help of "Scrap iron" George Gadaski (realname: John Kosti), to the draw for ten minutes in Rice Lake. Flair began his professional career at Gagne's Minneapolis Boxing & Wrestling Club. He was then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was employed by Jim Crockett Promotions, a part of the world's sanctioning body called the National Wrestling Alliance. Flair was managed by George Scott, a matchmaker (wrestling terms). In 1981, he captured the first NWA World title (he would wear the belt for nine times). He later worked with World Championship Wrestling, which Ted Turner formed after purchasing the JCP assets as well as Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment.
