Karsten Johansson, her father, is a Danish-born architect. She is a sibling to Vanessa Johansson who is an actress. Her brother Adrian Johansson was born three minutes later. Hunter Johansson is a twin brother, and her paternal half-brother Christian Johansson was born just three minutes later. Ejner Johansson was her grandfather. Johansson started acting as a child, when her mother started inviting her to auditions. When she was just eight years old she made her debut as an actor in "Sophistry" which was an off-Broadway musical with Ethan Hawke at New York's Playwrights Horizons. She would audition for commercials but was so disappointed her mother started limiting her to film tryouts. She made her film debut at the age of nine as the character's daughter in the fantasy comedy North (1994)
