The role she played in the film "Beloved" in which she is the ghost of a girl in slavery is another standout. She appeared in the film for television "In Your Dreams" as well as in the medical drama series 'ER' that were aired during prime time. She has also delivered award-winning performances. She was awarded the BAFTA Award for 'Best Actress In a Supporting Role in the film "Crash". After having a relationship with director John Duigan for six years from the age of 16 she got married to producer, writer, and director Ol Parker. Together, she has three kids.
