Tom Cruise

If you had said to Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, a fourteen-year-old Franciscan seminary student that he'd one day be Tom Cruise, one the 100 greatest film actors of all time the young man would likely have smiled and declared that his ambition was to become priest. But this sensitive, deeply religious youngster born in 1962 in Syracuse, New York, was bound to be one of the highest-paid and most sought after actors in film history.Tom is the sole son (among four children) of nomadic parents, Mary Lee (Pfeiffer), an educator in special education, and Thomas Cruise Mapother III, an electrical engineer. Both of his parents hail native to Louisville, Kentucky. He also has German, Irish and English heritage. Young Tom spent his boyhood always moving around until when he was 14 years old, he had attended 15 different schools in the U.S. and Canada. He finally moved to Glen Ridge, New Jersey with his mother and new husband. Tom was a high school student who wanted to be a priest. But, he quickly discovered his love of acting. He left school at 18 and headed towards New York, where he could pursue a career in acting. The following 15 years have become legendary. His first film appearance was in Endless Love (1981), an unassuming role was played by him. He instantly demonstrated an impressive appeal to both female and male audiences.
