Vanilla Ice

The American rapper Vanilla Ice is a one-hit wonder who became famous with the smash hit song "Ice Ice Babe". He was born Robert Matthew Van Winkle and was known as Vanilla Ice when he was in his teens. He was the son of a dysfunctional family. He wasn't aware of his biological father's name and was often moved when his stepfather switched jobs. He was a mediocre student as a teenager and dropped out of school without graduating. The one thing that set this teenager apart from other youngsters from troubled homes was his incredible musical ability. He loved hip-hop and practiced break dancing, especially the dance known as 'ice', which resulted in his nickname. He created his own group of performers, called 'The Vanilla Ice Posse' and performed on the streets and in nightclubs. In addition to music, he had another love for motor racing and had taken home three consecutive championships in the National Grand Championship. After suffering an injury that required him to retire from racing professionally and focus his attention in music. He released his debut album "Hooked," later reissued as 'To the Extreme and 'To the Extreme'. It featured the hit single 'Ice Ice Babe' which was his first claim to fame. The album reached No.1 on the Billboard 200 and is credited for bringing hip-hop to the white audience.
