Winona Laura Horowitz (born October 29th, 1971),[1] professionally known as Winona Ryder, is an American actress. In her early days, she played quirky roles. But, she became well-known for her diverse roles in productions that span different genres during the 1990s. Her awards include an Screen Actors Guild Award, the Golden Globe Award, and nominations for the Grammy Award and two Academy Awards. Ryder made her film debut with Lucas (1986) and was celebrated for her role in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice (1988). Her role in Heathers (1989), Great Balls of Fire (89), Mermaids(90), Edward Scissorhands (1990) Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) increased her fame. Her portrayals of May Welland, a socialite in Martin Scorsese's The Age of Innocence (1993) and Jo March in Little Women's fifth film adaptation (1994) brought her much the acclaim of critics. Her other films during this time period included Reality Bites (1994), How to Make an American Quilt (1995), The Crucible (1996), Alien Resurrection (1997), Celebrity (1998) as well as Girl, Interrupted (1999) and she also served as executive producer.
