Rachel Elizabeth Brosnahan was born July 12 in 1990. She stars as aspiring stand-up comic Miriam "Midge" Maisel in the Amazon Prime Video period comedy series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017-present) in which she received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2018 and two consecutive Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress - Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2018 and 2019.She was also a regular role on the Netflix political thriller series House of Cards (2013-2015) as Rachel Posner, for which she received an Primetime Emmy Award nomination, as well as a leading role in the WGN drama series Manhattan (2014-2015).She made her film debut in the horror film The Unborn (2009), and has also appeared in films including Beautiful Creatures (2013), Louder Than Bombs (2015), The Finest Hours (2016), Patriots Day (2016), The Courier (2020), and I'm Your Woman (2020).Brosnahan was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Carol and Earl Brosnahan, who worked in publishing for children. Her mother is British, and her father is American and Irish. Since the age of four, Brosnahan was raised in Highland Park, Illinois She has a younger brother and sister. She is a niece of late fashion designer Kate Spade (nee Brosnahan).Though she is famous for her role as an Jewish character on television (Mrs. Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Brosnahan herself is not from Jewish descent. She has said that she was "happily to be immersed" in Jewish traditions thanks to the community of Highland Park, Illinois
