Eddie Van Halen was the co-founder and lead guitarist for Van Halen. He is one of the most popular and original guitarists that have been a part of the American music scene. Eddie Van Halen was the child of music-loving parents. He took piano lessons in his early years, which he hated. Instead, he took up guitar and soon became an expert at playing it. He would spend hours practicing the instrument in his room. Eric Clapton was a huge admirer and would listen to records each day, attempting how to play his solos. He founded Mammoth with his brother Alex and bassist Mark Stone, and singer David Lee Roth. The band members considered many names, but settled on Van Halen because they loved the sound. When Gene Simmons, the band's leader guitarist, heard the band and they were able to get their big break. They later signed a deal with Warner Brothers and released their self-titled debut album that went on to achieve Diamond status within the U.S. The band released a string of other hits over the years, as Eddie's reputation as a great guitarist increased with each passing year.
