Julie Newmar

 Julia Chalene Newmeyer, the third oldest child, was born in Los Angeles on August 16, 1933. Her father, Don, was a one-time professional football player (LA Buccaneers, 1926) and her mother, Helene Jesmer, was a star of the Follies of 1920 . Later, she became a fashion stylist under the professional name of Chalene. From an early childhood, Julie studied piano, dance, and classical ballet. At 15 years old she graduated from high school and spent a year travelling Europe with her parents and brother. She was a prima ballerina at the Los Angeles Opera. After finishing her studies at UCLA and pursuing a degree in the classical piano as well as the philosophy of. In 1955 Newmar made her Broadway debut in "Silk Stockings." She won acclaim for her portrayal of Stupefyin Jones in "Li'l Abner". Though audiences and critics alike were awed by her beautiful looks, that was not the praise Newmar wanted.Newmar was determined to be remembered for her comedy in her statement to the New York Times: "Tell me you're funny, and that's the best compliment you can get." She was beautiful, intelligent and a dazzling sense of humor. In promoting her numerous Broadway and off-Broadway performances She often dressed in pin-up clothes.
