Lil Boosie was born Torrence Hatch in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on November 14, 1983, and was given the name Boosie by his family . He was raised on W. Garfield St. in a ghetto in the slums of south side Baton Rouge (SSB).Growing up, Boosie was made to feel a lot more savage by the numerous hardships he was put through. His neighborhood, notorious for its violence and drugs, was a place feared by people of all ages. It was a slum for outsiders but life for residents. Boosie was very into basketball to keep him off the streets. His father was killed over drugs and Boosie was moved into the home of his mother. As a child, without a father figure and without a solid guide, Boosie turned to drugs and criminality. After being expelled from the school, Boosie picked up freestyling and then began to think seriously about his music. Boosie was a resident of the 225, and was without connections or exposure. Lil Boosie teamed up with Baton Rouge rapper C-Loc in the late 90s, and made his debut on C-Loc's 5th album.
