Marg Helgenberger, an established actor in dramatic roles has seen her fame steadily increase. Her achievements have been recognized on TV or film as well as stage. Her career has been defined by dramatic roles on television, but she also has a notable appearance in feature film. Helgenberger graduated from Northwestern University with a drama degree. A talent scout recruited her from there to work on the soap opera Ryan's Hope (1975) where she starred for the duration of four years.Throughout the 1990s, Helgenberger played a variety of parts in made-for-TV films and as a guest on many TV series. She was particularly prominent in movies that were made by both the Lifetime cable network as well as Showtime. Critical acclaim was given to In Sickness and in Health (1992), Thanks of a Grateful Nation (191998) as well as Perfect Murder, Perfect Town, JonBenet and Boulder (2000). She also won an Emmy in a television series for her portrayal of a prostitute who served Vietnam War soldiers in China Beach (1988). In addition to playing George Clooney's love interests in a multi-episode series, ER (1994), she was also featured in Tootsie (1982), Steven Spielberg's Always (1989), Species (95) and In Good Company (2004).
