Ruth Roman, born Norma Roman on December 22nd, 1922 – September 9 1999, was an American actress. She started her career on the east coast as a stage actress and moved to Hollywood to make a name for herself in films. She was in a variety of part parts that were not acknowledged until she was selected as the lead actress in the western Harmony Trail (1944) and as the title character in the film serial Jungle Queen (1945), her first film credits performances.Roman was first seen in the title role in Belle Starr's Daughter (1948).She made her debut success with a role in The Window (1949) and one year later, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year as an actress for her performance in Champion (1949). The actress was under contract with Warner Bros. in the 1950s. Following her departure from Warner Bros. in the mid-1950s she continued to star in films as well as guest roles on TV series. She also worked abroad and made films in England, Italy, and Spain. In 1956, she was also a passenger on the SS Andrea Doria that collided with another vessel and sank. In 1959, she was awarded the Sarah Siddons Award for her performance in the play Two for the Seesaw. The numerous appearances on television earned her a star on the Hollywood Walk of FameNorma Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Lithuanian Jewish parents, Mary Pauline (nee Gold) and Abraham "Anthony" Roman. She was given the name "Ruth" after an omen-teller informed her mother that "Norma" was not a good name. Her mother was a dancer, and her father was a barker at a carnival sideshow that they operated at Revere Beach, Massachusetts. Ann and Eve were her older sisters.
