Ruth Roman, born Norma Roman on December 22, 1922 – September 9th 1999 was an American actress. Her career began on the east coast as a stage actress and moved to Hollywood to explore a film career. Prior to being cast in western Harmony Trail (1944), Roman was also cast as the title character of Jungle Queen (1945), the first time she was credited with a role. She was nominated to win the Golden Globe Award as New Star of the Year and as an Actress for her part in Champion (1949). In the beginning of 1950 she was signed with Warner Bros., where she starred in a variety of films, including the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951).In the mid-1950s, following her departure from Warner Bros., Roman continued to star in films and also began playing the roles of guest stars in TV series. Roman also made films in Spain, Italy, and England. In 1956, she was a passenger on the SS Andrea Doria that collided with another vessel and sank. She was given the Sarah Siddons Award in 1959 for her performance in the show Two for the Seesaw. Her many television appearances have earned her a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. FameNorma Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Lithuanian Jewish parents, Mary Pauline (nee Gold) and Abraham "Anthony" Roman. A fortune teller told her mother that "Norma was unlucky," she was given the name Ruth. Her mother was a dancer , and her father worked as a barker in a carnival sideshow they owned in Revere Beach. She had two older sisters, Ann and Eve.
